Maya Mountain Cacao was founded in 2010 as a pioneer centralized fermentary, and the first exporter in Belize to produce high-quality, centrally-fermented cacao for the US craft chocolate market. Over 350 certified organic cacao farming families contribute their harvests, most of whom are indigenous Q’eqchi’ and Mopan Maya and who have been producing cacao for generations. Maya Mountain earned an Heirloom Cacao Preservation designation in 2014, and is dedicated to creating a positive, sustainable impact for its farmers and the communities of southern Belize. In 2019, Maya Mountain Cacao was given a Cocoa of Excellence Award.
